Minnesota Online Digital Exchange(MODE) -
Accepting Shared Learning Objects Proposals
$60,000 Available for Grant Awards to Create Learning Objects

The Academic Innovations Division in the Office of the Chancellor will provide each Center of Excellence up to $15,000 of dollars to create learning objects that will support each center’s regional, state, and national endeavors.  Learning objects created for the Minnesota Online Digital Exchanges (MODE) will focus on developing learning objects to:
  •  Promote partnerships with K-12 schools, businesses, and industries for innovative curriculums
  •  Offer opportunities for increased career awareness, readiness, preparation and career development related to applied research focused on workforce challenges
  •  Enhance services to recruit and retain a more diverse student population
About MODE: MODE was developed with a focus on exchanging and  promoting shared high-quality digital learning content across our Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. MODE can support and provide access to digital content to support learning and course development across the system in credit, noncredit, and customized training courses.
 
Learning objects (LOs) developed through this award will include the following kinds of structure and content:
  •  Knowledge presented through text, graphics, and audio (if needed)
  •  One or more interactive games suitable to the specific learning object
  •  Optional advanced reading/resources linked to the module
  •  Printable companion document for comprehensive review
Outcomes from this award should include 3 to 5 final products [learning objects].  These final products should be submitted in self-contained units of at least 45 to 60 minutes of course delivery.

 All LO project proposals to include:

 Name of Center of Excellence submitting the proposal:

 Project Manager and Learning Objects Creation Team

(Names, email addresses, and phone numbers)

 Preliminary budget that outlines how funds would be used in the project

 Any in-kind dollars or resources to support the project

 APA citations and or copyright clearance as appropriate

 Designated Creative Commons Attribution and/or Share Alike License

 Prerequisite knowledge or skills identified

 Clear learning objectives

 Identified audience for the learning object

 Instructions on how the learning object could be used

Evaluation Checklist for MODE Projects

I. Quality of Content
1.  The content must be professional, clear and accurate.

2.  Technology tools to build the content and the learning object will be provided, however if authors choose to use other tools they must be SCORM compliant.

3.   All learning objects should be original work and if the work is based on the use of other authors — APA citations must be provided.

4.   The learning objects contains the work of others, [e.g. charts, graphics, diagrams, tables, etc.] copyright clearance must be provided when the LO is submitted to the MODE.

II. Effectiveness as a teaching/learning tool
1.  The learning object should be able to function as a learning tool in different types of learning environments.

2.  The prerequisite knowledge or skills have to be identified and the author/authors must provide evidence that the learning object enhances  learning.

3.    The learning object must have clear learning objectives and the target learners/audience must be identified.

4.  There must be clear instructions on how to use the learning model.

III. Ease of use
1. The learning object must have easy to use navigation tools and user control.

2. The author must indicate if the learning object can be accessed by learners with various needs.

3.Technical requirements to run the learning object must be stated.
